Bay Scallop Season Starts Oct 1

October might just be our favorite month of the year. The island finally quiets down, the beaches empty out, and parking in town is easy again. And to top it all off, recreational bay scallop season starts on Friday, October 1! Whether you are planning to rake, snorkel, or scuba, these bivalve treats are especially plentiful at low tide in the first month before commercial scallop seasons gets underway.

As always, a permit from the Town of Nantucket is required. You can apply for your permit and bring cash, check, or a credit card to 4 Fairgrounds Rd. Your button must be on display on your gear when scalloping.

Nantucket resident: One Year (age 14-59) $35

Nantucket resident: Lifetime (age 60+)

Reminder: catch limit is TWO bushels per week. Scalloping is allowed from Wednesday through Sunday. Madaket and Monomoy are great places to start!
